In February of 1962, the Portuguese Athletic Club started as a community institution that met the expectations of the new immigrants, giving it a project that was at the same time a link with their original tastes, habits, traditions and a meeting place where they could easily put down the load of acculturation and share experiences in order to better prepare themselves for the daily challenges in a society that brought new realities to those who were raised on a small island.
